Yesterday, was the final audition of Miss Nepal 2019 beauty pageant and all the lucky applicants were invited via a phone call to do a personal interview with a set panel of judges. This year panel of judges for Kathmandu Auditions were

We have a very special guest for our 3rd exclusive interview, she is an inspiration to many LGBTI community around the world. She made the milestone by becoming the very 1st transgender woman to walk the International runway of Lakme Fashion Week. She is the queen of the runway, we are talking with none other than Nepal's own Anjali Lama Transgender Supermodel. We welcome you to Real Talk with Anjali Lama by Official Nepali Beauty Series 1 Chapter 3

1 Can you tell us a little bit about yourself to our readers?
A: I was born as Nabin Waiba Tamang in the remote farming village of Nuwakot, Nepal. 
I never had it easy during my childhood and school days.

2 How was it growing up as a transgender woman in Nepal?
A: Often bullied for being ‘girl-like’, confused and constantly battled with inner doubts and humiliation.
Now I am known as Anjali Lama a Transgender model from Nepal.

3 You are known as an Icon in the LGBTI Community, How was your journey as a transgender model?
A: My selection on Lakme Fashion Week created trending news in Nepal, India and International medias and I became a national hero overnight. No model from Nepal before me had been selected from audition for LFW. Wishes started pouring in and people praised my perseverance and courage. It was a roller-coaster ride with many ups and down throughout my journey.

4 While working as model, where you ever discriminated against just because you were a transgender woman?
If Yes, please tell us your story.
A: Yes, I know I have been rejected in shows couple of times just being a Transgender woman. However, I don’t want to talk more about it and those who rejected me are now praising my work and achievements.

5 What is one thing that nobody knows about you?
A: This still remains a secret haha…

6 What do you think of Nepal’s future in modelling?
A: I think future is bright in Nepal. There are designers, models and talents coming in Nepal and it is growing. 

8 What makes you happy?
A: My work and friends makes me happy.

9 What do you think of LGBTI laws in Nepal? Do you feel safe walking openly in the streets of Nepal?
A: Nepal laws are very open and supportive towards LGBTI community.
There was never a problem for me openly walking in streets of Nepal.

10 How would you define your personal style?
A: I am very clear with my personal style, what I want and what to wear.
But sometimes I would like to experiment with something new and change my style.

11 Since you are an International Top Model, how do you manage to be in such a good shape?
A: I do work out at the gym and I am very conscious about my diet and I keep myself in good shape.

12 Since you have moved to Mumbai, how is it different to Kathmandu?
Specially interms of modelling and fashion industry?
A: Mumbai industry is very big and huge. It attracts thousands of people because the market is big and wide here. Since it has a long history, it is more organized and systematic. I am in Mumbai all due to my work and learning from Kathmandu so, the work is almost the same here.

13 What projects are you working on at the moment?
A: I am doing Van Heusen women show just completed in Kolkatta and waiting to do remaining next two shows in Mumbai and Bangalore.

14 What do you see yourself doing in 10 years time?
A: Well it’s hard to say but I will be engaged with fashion industry in the coming 10 years.

15 In the end any message you want to tell to our audience?
A: The path to your dreams will always be fraught with difficulties, but you have to march on.
Do not give up on yourself or your dreams.
